Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey best known as the biggest-selling female recording artist of the 1990's. Raised in New York Mariah Carey began singing at age four.
She got her fist big break as a backup singer for "Brenda K. Starr", a break that led to her signing with Columbia Records. And now Mariah is not only a singer, but also a writer, producer and director.
Carey's debut album was "Mariah Carey" in 1990. Her hit albums include Mariah Carey (1990), Music Box (1993) and Butterfly (1997). Mariah Carey has had more #1 singles than any female artist, surpassing both the Supremes (12) and Madonna (11), and more #1's than any currently active recording artist. She has had more #1 singles (14) than any artist during the 1990's and has more singles (3) debut at #1 than any artist in history.
Mariah was the first female artist to see two of her albums "Music Box" and "Daydream" reach the 10 million mark in sales and is the only female artist to have eight albums certified triple-platinum or better. Mariah's entire album catalog has achieved RIAA multi-platinum status.
In 2001 Carey left Columbia to sign with EMI's Virgin Records for a reported $100 million; her first Virgin album, "Glitter", the soundtrack to her semi-autobiographical 2001 movie, but it made a disappointment. The next year she split with EMI, which paid $28 million to buy out the remainder of her contract.
Carey was engaged with singer Luis Miguel, before that she had briefly dated baseball star Derek Jeter. Carey's ex-husband Tommy Mottola married Mexican pop star Thalia in December of 2000.
